Heavy Equipment Technician 

Purpose:
The Heavy Equipment Technician carries out duties primarily associated with the maintenance and repairs of the municipality's fleet of automotive, light and heavy duty equipment.  They carry out duties associated with the purchasing and ordering of parts, supplies, and equipment consistent to the Town of Redcliff Purchasing Policy and the current department budget.

Lateral Relationships:
The Heavy Equipment Technician will work with all members of the Public Services Department to effectively and efficiently accomplish the goals and initiatives of the Town of Redcliff.  They will be required to consult and cooperate with other municipal employees, contractors, suppliers, government agencies, and the general public.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  1. Required to maintain and repair the municipality's fleet of automotive, light and heavy duty equipment.
  2. Responsible to implement and monitor regular preventive maintenance programs for the municipality's fleet of automotive, light and heavy duty equipment.
  3. Required to conduct vehicle inspections in compliance with the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program of Alberta Transportation and Utilities.
  4. Responsible for maintaining inventory of fuels, parts and supplies for the department’s vehicles and equipment.
  5. Operates light and heavy duty equipment for the purpose of maintenance and/or construction of the municipality's infrastructure and facilities.
  6. Performs the actual physical labour as required for the maintenance or construction of all municipal facilities and infrastructures.
  7. Performs routine maintenance on equipment and facilities as required and directed by the supervisor.
  8. Ensures that a positive public image is portrayed to the public indicating the municipality's commitment to excellence in service for the residents of the Town of Redcliff.
  9. Responsible for ensuring adequate on-site safety procedures and regulations are practiced as they pertain to operations of the municipality.
  10. Assists with other duties related to the operation of the Public Services Department as required.
  11. May be required to participate in a rotating schedule for after-hours stand by and call out duties.
  12. The successful candidate must provide their own tools.
  13. Apprenticeship with first to forth year will be considered and wages will correspond with the current collective agreement

Education and Experience:
  1. Must have a valid Journeyman Automotive Technician and/or Heavy Equipment Technician Certification.
  2. Apprenticeships will be considered at a reduced pay rate based off the Alberta apprenticeship programs pay scale in regards to the Town’s collective agreement.
  3. Required to obtain and maintain certification to inspect vehicles in compliance of the Vehicle Inspections Program of Alberta Transportation and Utilities.
  4. Must have and maintain a valid Class 3 Alberta Driver’s License with air brake endorsement.  Class 1 would be considered an asset.
  5. Minimum Grade 12 education.
  6. Must be in good physical condition and may be required to successfully perform a physical ability test.
  7. Should have related experience in a municipal operations or construction environment.
  8. Must be able to demonstrated satisfactory ability to operate a variety of equipment that is utilized in a municipal operations environment.
  9. Must have work or personal experience that would demonstrated the ability to work independently and unsupervised, show self-motivation, and to demonstrate sound judgment and decision making abilities.
  10. Clean Criminal Records Check.
