Communications Assistant

Fraser Valley Regional District

Communications Assistant

(Time Duration) (Full-Time Hours)
Competition #2018-42

We are the third largest regional district in BC and deliver over 100 services to six municipalities and eight electoral areas that are made up of cities, towns and small rural communities.  You get the picture-we do a lot of things for a lot of people.

Our “target audience” is pretty much everyone:  the 295,934 citizens who live within our 13,336 km2 boundary, local, provincial and federal politicians, professional colleagues in each of our six municipalities, the media, developers, businesses - the list goes on. Our “messaging” covers everything: the importance of recycling; why you have to apply for a permit for that house addition; how we make sure you have safe drinking water; when you might need to evacuate; which park has picnic facilities for a family reunion. Our communication tools include brochures, website, media releases, social media channels, posters, videos, photos, and public events. If you’re the type of person who finds this exciting rather than overwhelming, then keep reading.

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in Communications or Public Relations plus several years’ experience in local government, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;

  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare well written technical and administrative reports;
  • Ability to work independently , exercise  good judgement, and effectively handle conflicting priorities and non-routine situations;
  • Proficient in the latest computer technology and programs such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator);
  • Must be in possession of a valid Driver’s Licence.

We offer a positive, supportive, team-based work environment with an emphasis on collaboration. We believe in lifelong learning and are committed to providing and supporting training and professional development opportunities for our staff. If you have a positive, can-do attitude and a keen sense of humour, you will fit right in. Bring your positive energy, ambition and desire to learn, and we’ll take care of the rest.
