The District of North Vancouver has a vacancy in the Transportation Engineering department. This position will appeal to anyone interested in working with a team of experienced transportation professionals to anticipate and strategically plan for the future of mobility on the North Shore. Fuelled by the Official Community Plan and a vision to develop a network of compact, smart growth town and village centres, you will improve mobility within and throughout the DNV that may include emerging concepts such as ride share, self-driving vehicles, smart streets, electric vehicles/ bikes, mobility pricing and smart billing systems. In addition, you will continue to build on the excellent working relationships with MoTI, Translink, First Nations, Vancouver Port Authority, City of NV, District of WV, BC Parks, Metro Vancouver Regional District, and Vancouver Coastal Health. This is an exciting time in our history as we build community resilience and work towards integration between built form, transportation, the economy, the environment, parks and trails.
We are looking for a Transportation Engineer to provide professional engineering oversight of our transportation network. You will review traffic control devices, manage signal operations, develop timing plans, undertake signal coordination studies, develop standard practises and guidelines, evaluate request for new or different traffic controls, select equipment, and develop strategies to collect, analyse and disseminate traffic information.
You will also be expected to develop strategic plans, policies, and processes to optimize the existing transportation system and to influence and determine future decisions. You will respond to the public and Council, and work with and guide technical staff including reviewing and approving work.
You are a proven communicator and coordinator with strong time management skills and the ability to find practical solutions within a dynamic team. You are an Engineer with experience in all aspects of municipal transportation and mobility, with specialist expertise in traffic data surveys and analysis, traffic impact studies, traffic signal timing, and/or intelligent transportation systems. Experience in traffic modelling, contract administration and in managing consultants will be an asset. You hold a Professional Engineering Degree, a Professional Engineer designation in B.C. (or are eligible for registration) and have a minimum of five years of transportation engineering experience. Work experience in an urban municipal setting is an asset. A valid B.C. Driver’s License is required.
