Our auxiliary Building Service Worker (BSW) team performs cleaning, janitorial, and custodial tasks in multi-use facilities, including swimming pools, gymnasiums, weight rooms and activity rooms. Examples of duties performed include cleaning and disinfecting washrooms, sweeping, washing, stripping/waxing floors, emptying garbage and recycling receptacles, cleaning glass, and dusting public and staff areas. The position operates and maintains building maintenance cleaning equipment including pressure washers, floor machines and other related equipment. The BSW also ensures building security, helps with room set up, answers enquiries and provides routine information and assistance to the public and performs other related work as needed.
Qualifications for our BSW team include experience in building service work or janitorial work experience, sound knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in janitorial work and a valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia. Some knowledge of routine building maintenance and minor repair tasks is required. The ability to perform simple routine maintenance, repair, BSW Certification and basic knowledge of pool mechanical and water chemistry are considered assets for this role. Your resume should highlight sound working experience with practices, tools, and cleaning equipment used in routine building maintenance or janitorial work. Strong communication skills are required, along with the ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions, and to effectively deal with the public in a customer service role. Our BSWs will also execute written and oral instructions and communicate with supervisors regularly. Incumbents will also have experience working independently as an effective part of a building maintenance staff team.
This position is auxiliary/on call and the hours of work are determined in advance by supervisors based on operational requirements. We are looking for individuals with good availability and flexibility to work a number of shifts. Various on-call shifts are available at a number of facilities including Bonsor Recreation Complex, Cameron Recreation Complex and Edmonds Community Centre. Shifts include daytime (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM), afternoon (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM) and graveyard (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM). The majority of shifts available at this time are graveyard.
Wage: $22.98 per hour with 12% paid in lieu of benefits (Pay Grade 13).
