Wastewater Supervisor and Chief Operator  


Nature of the Position
In 2015 the District of Sechelt commissioned one of the most innovative and advanced LEED certified wastewater treatment plants in Canada – The Sechelt Water Resource Centre.  This is a state of the art, tertiary level, membrane filtration, wastewater treatment plant rated as a Class IV facility.   
 
The District of Sechelt is seeking an individual to join our team as our Wastewater Supervisor and Chief Operator.  Life in Sechelt boasts a temperate West Coast climate, access to beautiful and varied land and marine environments, a wide range of community amenities and activities and a vibrant cultural scene. This position plays a key role at the District of Sechelt
 
As the Wastewater Supervisor, you will manage the overall operation of the wastewater system – collection, treatment and future reclaimed water distribution – along with the operational staff.
 
As the Chief Operator of the Sechelt Water Resource Centre, you will be responsible for the day to day operation for wastewater treatment, ensuring the facility meets all of its performance requirements safely and efficiently.   You will be working closely with the technical support team from the technology supplier – Veolia Water Solutions Canada to refine the treatment operations.

Essential Competencies
Applicants must have completed Grade 12 (or equivalent); BC EOCP Wastewater Treatment Operator Level IV, or Level III with the experience and ability to reach Level IV within one year (or inter-provincial equivalent); BC EOCP certification in wastewater collection (or inter-provincial equivalent); a minimum of two years Direct Responsible Charge at a class III or higher wastewater treatment facility; a minimum of two years staff supervisory experience, hold a valid Class 5 Drivers License (or inter-provincial equivalent); and live within 30 minutes driving time of the Sechelt Water Resource Centre.  
 
Applicants must have confined space training, workplace hazardous materials information system training and transportation of dangerous goods training; thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, SCADA systems, laboratory equipment, testing standards and methods; be proficient with spreadsheets, data manipulation and interpretation; and demonstrate analytical thinking, strong communication, leadership, team building and supervisory skills in a unionized environment.  
 
Applicants must be competent in word processing and technical report writing; have the ability to interpret and apply a Collective Agreement; demonstrate a professional, responsible, positive work attitude, interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as a team member; have the ability to react to and manage emergency situations and exert, sustain and repeat physical and mental actions necessary to complete tasks and work  under conditions requiring strength, endurance and focused attention in all types of weather; and a strong commitment to service.
 
Preferred Competencies
Post-secondary education in water and/or wastewater technology would be considered an asset.   
 
Working Conditions
This is a permanent full time unionized position within the BCGEU open to both male and female applicants.  Salary for this position is set at Grid Level 14 $36.89 - $40.99 per hour. Hours of work are 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Flexibility to dispatch and respond to callouts on evenings and weekends is required.
