Resource Recovery Coordinator(Permanent Full-Time)
The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) is located in southwestern BC and consists of 4 member municipalities (Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Lillooet) and 4 electoral areas. The region contains some of the most spectacular forests, waterways, and mountains in the province and affords an endless range of opportunities for outdoor adventure.
Headquartered in Pemberton, which is the approximate geographic centre of the region, the SLRD delivers a wide range of regional, sub-regional and local services to its residents. Services include land use planning, solid waste management, building inspection, fire protection, emergency preparedness, 911 services, recreation, water and sewer utilities, trails and open spaces as well as financial support for various community services.
The SLRD is seeking to fill the permanent, full-time position of Resource Recovery Coordinator. This position will encompass a wide range of responsibilities within the SLRD Engineering Services Department with a focus on Solid Waste Management. The primary purpose of this position is to implement, supervise, monitor and develop solid waste and recycling initiatives in accordance with the SLRD Solid Waste Management Plan and to oversee landfill and waste transfer stations and educational programming, under the direction of the Director of Engineering Services.
The ideal candidate will have post-secondary training in the area of environmental science, environmental engineering or a related field, supplemented by 5 or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
In addition, the ideal candidate will also possess:
- Demonstrated firsthand knowledge of Solid Waste Management practices;
- Comprehensive understanding of the legislation and governance relating to Solid Waste Management;
- Excellent research skills;
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
- Highly organized, effective attention to detail and accuracy and excellent follow-through;
- High level of integrity and accountability.

Compensation will be determined commensurate with knowledge, skills and ability, includes a comprehensive benefit package and Municipal Pension Plan and offers the ability to work a compressed work week (nine-day fortnight).
