The city of Iqaluit www.city.iqaluit.nu.ca is located in south Baffin Island at the northern end of Frobisher Bay. Iqaluit is the capital of Nunavut, the largest and fastest-growing community in the territory. With a population of approximately 8,000, this exciting, dynamic city is the political, business, journalism and transportation hub of Nunavut, with a new and fully updated airport. Iqaluit bustles in non-stop activities from local to international politics, recreational options within the community and on the land, a wide assortment of organized hobbies. Iqaluit is dynamic, culturally diverse and also is rich with traditional Inuit culture. It is the home of many Inuit artists, filmmakers and musicians, with arts and culture festivals being staged in the spring and summer that bring artists to Iqaluit from across the territory. Over the next several years, many multi-million dollar capital projects are slated for the city and surrounding area that will create hundreds of permanent jobs preparing Iqaluit for sustained future growth for many years to come. Recognizing the importance strong organizational leadership plays when it comes to delivering the very best of services to its residents and visitors alike, the City is looking to attract an accomplished municipal executive as Chief Administrative Officer to take the organization to the next level.
Working closely with Mayor and Council, you will have overall responsibility for managing the constantly changing and increasingly complex day-to-day municipal affairs of the community. Strong and proven leadership skills are required to lead a staff of dedicated team professionals and play a key role with council in planning and executing a strategic vision that meets both current and future needs of the City.
Your background includes strong academic credentials and several years in a senior role within municipal or territorial government administration, ideally coupled with an accomplished work history of private sector management. Comfortable working with all levels of government, you fully understand the challenges facing progressive, growth oriented communities, and have a track record of demonstrating your capabilities and successes as a senior executive. Must be capable of dealing with competing priorities, you are a take charge, visionary strategic thinker with impeccable human resources and labour relations skills and a communicator with sound political judgement. You are recognized as a catalyst for positive change within the workplace and well respected for your sound financial leadership, team building skills and proven commitment to customer service excellence. Trust, integrity, wisdom and accomplished are often words used to describe you as a person and business leader. Although not a job perquisite, an understanding of indigenous relations will be considered an asset.
