The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Facility Service Worker to join our team of professionals in the Parks and Recreation Division; Recreation Programs and Services Department.
Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, you will be responsible in this unionized position for planning, assigning, scheduling, checking and participating in the work of a group of subordinates engaged in such activities as facility and equipment maintenance, refrigeration and ice-making tasks, pool maintenance, and janitorial work; training new employees and participating in hiring new staff. You will establish and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for buildings and equipment, perform a variety of operational maintenance and routine repair duties relative to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, ice-making and related support systems. You will schedule, coordinate and carry out tests and inspections of water quality in swimming pools to ensure compliance with provincial standards; and perform a variety of operational maintenance and repair duties relative to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, ice making, and related support systems. Check system component operation including lubricating and cleaning equipment, and necessary repairs and adjustments to a variety of equipment such as electric motors, pumps compressors, wave machines and UV systems.
Your education will include completion of technical courses related to the work such as pool operation, refrigeration and ice-making, and supervisory training, plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment and procedures used in ice-making and refrigeration operations; as well as knowledge of the functions and operational principles and procedures pertaining to water heating, filtration, chlorination, ozone and ionizing systems, materials and tools used in the operation and maintenance of swimming pools and related stationary equipment; and sound knowledge of the functions and operations of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment and related systems is necessary.
This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a police information check as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

- A Refrigerator Operator Certificate
- Pool Operator Certificate Level II
- Emergency First Aid and CPR Certification
- BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver’s license or equivalent driver’s license for where you reside. You must upload a current Driver’s Abstract (select the 5 years’ option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date below with your application. To obtain a copy of your Driver’s Abstract, please contact ICBC directly or the driving authority where you reside. Copies or pictures of your driver’s license will not be accepted.
The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $27.21 - $31.99 per hour (5 steps 2018 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm; non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
