We are currently inviting applications for a:
Parkland County has a Permanent, Full-time management position within the Planning & Development Services Department.  Reporting to the Director, the Manager provides leadership and oversight to operations pertaining to Development Planning and Safety Codes.  This includes operations and functions specific to the development permitting process, amendments to the Land Use Bylaw, legal matters pertaining to enforcement, Stop Orders, and presentations to boards and commissions related to the approval and appeal processes.  In addition, this position provides leadership and oversight to functions and operations pertaining to compliance and inspections to ensure buildings and systems are in compliance with the Alberta Building Code, referenced standards and associated regulations for elements of public safety governed under the Safety Codes Act and the requirements of the Safety Codes Council.  This position also provides support to the Director through a range of development planning projects, issues and applications.

  • Post-secondary Degree in Planning or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to Development Planning or Safety Codes with an increased degree of responsibility.;
  • Membership in the Alberta Development Officer Association or Canadian Institute of Planners, certification as a Registered Professional Planner or certification in a Safety Codes discipline would be considered an asset;
  • Five years’ experience in a municipal planning environment.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Exceptional working knowledge of the Municipal Government Act, Subdivision and Development regulation, planning law, land use enforcement and Safety Codes requirements, regulations and legislation.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze complex technical information and effectively disseminate to a multi-discipline organization;
  • Excellent writing, presentation, negotiation, organization and time-management skills.
  • Possession of a valid Alberta driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Rate of Pay: Competitive salary to be commensurate with education and experience.
Hours of Work: 7 hours/day; 35 hours/week
