The Town of Gibsons has an opening for a motivated individual to fill the position of Building Inspector – Casual.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Building Inspector-Casual position plays an integral role within the Planning team to ensure the safety and compliance of new building projects. The position is primarily responsible for plan checking, issuing permits, on-site inspections, maintaining records and data entry, advising the public on building techniques, and interpreting and enforcing the Town’s bylaws regulating construction activities and the BC Building Code.
The successful applicant must be self-motivated, capable of working independently and as part of a team, and have a strong background in building inspection in a municipal context. Computer skills, excellent interpersonal, organizational and written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to deal effectively with the public are all essential skills required for this position. Applicants will have a thorough knowledge of the BC Building and Plumbing Codes and least a Level II certification from the Building Official’s Association of BC and a minimum of five years of experience as a municipal building official, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may also be considered.
This is a union position reporting to the Director of Planning and will be called in on a casual basis and expected to cover for sick and vacation leave. The Town offers 10.2% in lieu of vacation and paid holidays in addition to the wonderful living and working surroundings.
Rate of Pay: $38.96/hour
