The District of North Vancouver has a temporary full-time opportunity available for a Construction Traffic Technician for one year with the possibility for extension. You will be part of the Construction Traffic Management team and will provide technical input and support on matters relating to construction traffic coordination, as well as compliance monitoring and enforcement of Highway Use Permit terms and conditions.
The work involves reviewing applications for Highway Use Permits, including temporary traffic management plans for issuance; determining appropriate permit conditions, monitoring compliance with and enforcement of Highway Use Permit conditions, using and maintaining construction coordination information systems, deploying Changeable Message Boards, responding to public enquiries and complaints; and providing technical advice for major infrastructure replacement projects. You will liaise with other departments to execute assignments. As part of a small team, you will exercise independent judgement and action and refer more complex problems and matters of policy to a supervisor. This work requires both office and field work.
The ideal candidate will have experience with:
- Traffic management principles
- Civil infrastructure construction and/or building construction
- Compliance monitoring and enforcement of permit terms and conditions and/or bylaws
- Negotiation with contractors/developers
- Coordinating multiple events with competing priorities
Two (2) years of successful experience in bylaw enforcement, and/or traffic management, and/or civil infrastructure or building construction, and/or graduation from a recognized college or institute of technology is preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Proficiency in the use of standard office software is essential. A valid B.C. Driver’s Licence is also required.
The pay range for this unionized position is $31.62 to $37.23 per hour based on a 35-hour work week.
