Job Description
Reporting to the Aquatics Program Supervisor, the Head Lifeguard Instructor is responsible for supervising an effective and safe operation of the aquatic areas.  The Head Lifeguard/Instructor is responsible for the lifeguards and instructors while on shift.  The Head lifeguard/Instructor is responsible for teaching a wide variety of swim program and preforms rescues and first aid as required.  They will perform cleaning duties and assist with maintenance activities.
 
Education 
High School Diploma or equivalent
 
Qualifications/Certifications
  1. National Lifeguard Service Award 
  2. Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor
  3. Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Trainer
  4. First Aid and CPR (c)
  5. WHMIS
  6. Ability to pass a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
  7. TB testing
 
The following awards are considered an asset:
  • National Lifeguard Instructor and Examiner,  Pool Operations level 1, First Aid and CPR Instructor, Lifesaving mentor, AST Instructor (Lifesaving Aquatic Supervisor Training), LSS Aquatic Facility Inspector, High Five (PCD), Quest Evaluator, Aquafit certification (CALA, Canfit, waterart), NCCP coaching level 1.
  • Experience working with a recreation management system is considered an asset.
 
Experience Required
  1. A minimum of two years of directly related experience in a supervisory role
  2. General knowledge of pool operations
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  4. A minimum of 2 years as an instructor and lifeguard (NLS level)
  5. Experience planning courses (bronze medallion etc.) 
  6. Knowledge and experience in working as part of a team.
  7. Excellent people skills.
  8. Must be able to maintain the required certifications
  9. Must be able to work flexible shifts including daytime, evenings and weekends and split shifts.
 
Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate must submit a clear criminal reference check with the vulnerable sector and evidence of a clear TB test at the time of application.
 
The annual salary for this position is $55,709.93 plus an annual settlement allowance of $20,907.43 and an excellent benefits package.
