The RDCK is enthusiastically seeking applications for the benefitted, full-time Development Technician position located in the Nelson Head Office. The Development Technician plays a key role in Development Services, acting as the first point of contact for applicants looking to navigate Building and Planning permitting processes and regulations in many areas of the RDCK. As part of the Building team, the successful candidate will work in collaboration with Building Officials and support staff to process building permits in compliance with zoning, building regulations and RDCK systems. The Development Technician will also identify zoning and land-use planning compliance matters and direct applications to the Planning department for review as needed.
The incumbent will demonstrate excellent customer service skills, discussing zoning and code matters in a way that facilitates compliance with regulation while also assisting the applicant to reach their desired outcome. This is a non-union position, working 35 hours per week. We offer a competitive compensation and benefits packaged to reflect your knowledge, skill and abilities. Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma in Drafting, Planning, Building Sciences or similar;
- 3 years experience working in a similar position within a Building or Planning team, preferably in a Regional District or Municipal setting;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered;
- Level 1 certified with the Building Officials Association of British Columbia would be considered an asset;
- Valid BC Drivers License and satisfactory Drivers Abstracts; and
- Satisfactory Criminal Record
