ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II
Permanent Full Time Position
The Water Resources Division of Saanich Engineering provides professional services for the management of the municipal sanitary sewer, potable water and storm drainage systems. This work includes infrastructure planning and capacity analysis, capital replacement design and construction, and operational technical support. We are recruiting for an Engineering Technician (level 2) to join our fast paced and diverse team. The ideal candidate is either a new graduate technologist or an engineering-in-training.
The work of the Engineering Technician II involves performing civil engineering work at a semi-professional level including a variety of opportunities such as preparing designs and overseeing construction of projects; project management for a various underground replacement works; oversight of services contracts for CCTV, or other operational programs; responding to inquiries or system issues, assessing the issue, and recommending actions to remedy. The role works closely with other more senior technicians and under the guidance of professional engineers in the team; is afforded a modest level of independence in completing work and an extraordinary variation in work tasks that will expand your functional knowledge of municipal infrastructure management and provides an excellent foundational experience for working in local government engineering services. The successful candidate will possess a sound technical foundation, some project management knowledge, is well organized, has strong communication skills and an appetite for learning.
Requirements include a two year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution; a minimum of 3 months of related experience; eligible for registration with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians BC; a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence; and ideally possess some Civil 3D AutoCAD skills. Training will be provided where AutoCAD skills are required to complete tasks. Alternate requirements include a Degree in Civil Engineering (or other related field) and registered with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC as an Engineer-in-Training. College and/or University cooperative work experiences will be considered.
The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m (35 hours per week) and will be eligible for participation in the District’s modified work week program (37.5 hours worked per week and every third Friday or Monday off).
This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $35.82 per hour plus an excellent benefits package.
