There is a temporary vacancy for a Communications Coordinator I (Communications Coordinator/Writer), in the Corporate Communications Division. This position is temporary for approximately five (5) months, with the possibility of extension(s).

This person will develop and execute a range of communications in support of Host City activities for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, with a strong focus on web materials.

Combining communications training, writing and editorial skills, and technical expertise, this position will develop  creative content within existing standards. The person will be responsible for developing, coordinating, organizing, locating, editing and maintaining key information on multiple subjects for the website; for creating new copy and compelling presentations on the site and other electronic forms; and for performing other general communications duties in support of the City's mandate.

Requirements
A diploma or degree in journalism, communications, new media, or public relations is required, with considerable related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The position requires excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated experience conveying complex subjects in plain language. Experience using web software such as DreamWeaver, Javascript, ColdFusion, Adobe Creative Suite and/or Quark Xpress would be considered an asset for this position, as well as the use of social media channels.

Tight timelines; excellent interpersonal skills and patience to deal tactfully with staff, media and the public; an ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion; an ability to work well in a team environment; and the ability to remain calm under pressure - are additional attributes required in this exciting and dynamic position.

The ability to speak and write fluently in both official languages would be considered another positive skill in this role as we prepare to welcome the world.

During the period of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympics Games employees working in certain positions at 'Designated Facilities and Sites' during the Olympics may be required to undergo and pass a security check.
