SALARY:
$63,918 - $75,369 annually (2019 rates) + comprehensive benefits package


We have an exciting new opportunity for a Supervisor, Facility Operations and Maintenance to join the Parks & Recreation Department! Your key responsibilities will be to supervise and coordinate facility operations and maintenance staff engaged in facility and equipment maintenance, repair, janitorial and custodial work for a variety of complex municipal and recreation buildings and facilities. Related duties include:

  • Assigning, training and supervising staff.
  • Coordinating and scheduling building and equipment maintenance and monitoring, troubleshooting and programing building systems.
  • Identifying contracted maintenance needs and preparing and evaluating request for quotes, proposals and tender documents.
  • Liaising with a variety of internal and external contacts, including City staff, contractors and consultants.
  • Preparing, reviewing and monitoring service contracts, technical reports and drawings and project invoices.
  • Monitoring operating and capital budgets and preparing and maintaining maintenance and operating records.
  • Recommending and implementing improved work methods and internal safety and quality standards.

If you have the following characteristics and qualifications, we want to hear from you!
  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by a certificate in recreation facility management plus considerable related technical and mechanical experience, including supervising the maintenance and operations of various recreational facilities. An equivalent combination of training and experience deemed suitable by the employer may be considered.
  • Class 4 Power Engineering or Boiler Certification, Pool Operator’s Certificate 1 & 2 and Standard First Aid Certificate with Occupational First Aid 1 (OFA1).
  • Considerable knowledge and skill in the methods, materials, and equipment used in indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities, waterparks, chemical handling, swimming pool repair, fitness centres, community recreation facilities and maintenance and janitorial operations.
  • Sound knowledge of the hazards, safety rules and regulations governing the safe operation and functions of community recreation facilities and swimming pools.
  • Sound knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems and of general building structures and components.
  • Working knowledge of preparing specifications for building maintenance work, various trades involved in building repairs, renovations and general maintenance as well as building, electrical, fire and safety codes.
  • Strong supervisory experience and the ability to lead staff.
  • Superior organizational and project management skills with the ability to effectively meet deadlines and perform duties with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities in order to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and must pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check.

*This position participates in a Compressed Work Week program and the successful candidate may be required to work evenings, weekends and statutory holidays as operationally required.
