Engineering Technician V
The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced civil engineering technologist to join our Engineering Department in the Project Management Office. The successful candidate will provide construction project management for the Shelbourne Street Improvements Project - a large, multidisciplinary, multi-year capital project. This will involve working collaboratively with civil consultants, contractors and the design project manager, as well as interdepartmentally within Engineering and with other Saanich departments.
The work of the Engineering Technician V involves performing civil engineering work at a semi-professional level including project scoping, engaging the services of professional engineering consultants through the request for proposal process, managing the design and delivery of engineering projects; responding to public inquiries; providing technical support to internal construction crews; liaising with/making recommendations to the Engineer of Record regarding design changes; reviewing design drawings for constructability; providing input on construction sequencing; mentoring junior staff and participating in intra or inter-departmental initiatives. The successful candidate will possess strong project management skills, and have a strong understanding of the construction practices of municipal infrastructure, contract compliance, change management processes and contract close out. The candidate will also be well organized, and have strong communication skills.
Requirements include a two year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution; a minimum of 8 years of directly related experience; registration as an AScT with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC; a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License; a personal vehicle available for use as and when required, and being conversant with computer based engineering applications including AutoCAD. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification may be considered an asset. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, such as a university degree in a relevant field of engineering with a minimum of 6 years of directly related work experience and registered with Engineering and Geoscientists of BC. The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
