Due to the retirement of a long term colleague, the City of Coquitlam currently has an exciting opportunity for a Police Projects Manager to complement our Police Services leadership team. Reporting to the Manager Police Services, this position works closely with the senior management team of the Police detachment.  

The Police Projects Manager is a leadership position responsible for the Coquitlam RCMP’s records department, ICT team, Jail operations and Police facility as well as responsibility for managing projects for the police department. Overseeing three sections of staff, this position has 4 unionized regular full time direct reports and the equivalent of approximately 40 regularly full time equivalent indirect reports.

This exciting role requires both an understanding of police services and project management and is an integral role in the ongoing maintenance and facility needs of the public safety building. In addition to managing facility projects, this position will be relied upon to research and prepare reports and recommendations for future projects to ensure the City’s police facilities are maintained in an efficient manner. The Police Projects Manager also assists in the development and control of the operating and capital budgets.

The Police Projects manager effectively manages a large team and projects independently and as part of a team. The successful incumbent will possess a high degree of project & process management abilities, business and political acumen; demonstrated experience leading high-performing teams within a unionized environment; the ability to develop and maintain strategic business relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and the ability to draft written correspondence for a senior or executive audience on matters of organizational significance and/or political importance.

The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, or related discipline supplemented by courses in human resource management and/or labour relations. A minimum of 5-7 years in progressive positions is required at a senior level, preferably within a municipal or unionized setting.  A Project Management Professional (PMP) or Lean Six Sigma or other professional designation would be an asset.
