This is an auxiliary position involved in regulatory and patrol work in ensuring compliance and enforcement of waterworks regulations, by-laws and the City’s water conservation program. The work involves patrolling neighborhoods by foot or motor vehicle to record instances of water misuse, water waste or hydrant obstruction and issuing tickets and warning notices as necessary. The Water Conservation Officer will prepare and maintain reports, records and correspondence; answer inquiries regarding water regulations, investigate and resolve complaints from the public; promote, disseminate and act as contact person for water conservation. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 plus sound related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of the geographic areas and street layouts of the City; the ability to deal and communicate tactfully and effectively with the public and to exercise sound judgement and discretion in the performance of duties; the ability to prepare and maintain various reports and records and perform related clerical work. Other requirements include the ability to observe and document incidents in a clear, concise and logical manner; operate office equipment and computer applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point). Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
