The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking a Permanent Full-Time Legislative Coordinator (Deputy Corporate Officer) with Corporate Services in the Legislative Services department. The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is one of 27 regional districts in the Province of British Columbia. The RDN provides regional governance and services to the municipalities of Nanaimo, Lantzville, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach, as well as seven unincorporated Electoral Areas. Established in 1967, the RDN is British Columbia’s fifth most populous Regional District, of 27 throughout the province, and home to more than 155,000 people.

Reporting to the Manager of Legislative Services, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing administrative and organizational support to the Board and its Committees. In addition, duties will include, preparing Board and Committee agendas; preparing and/or coordinating the preparation of bylaws; preparing and monitoring Department budget and expenditures; coordinating the processing of Special Event Permit applications; performing function of the FOI Coordinator; acts as the Deputy Chief Election Officer and Deputy Corporate Officer; and performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications include a degree in Public Administration, or related degree, plus five years prior job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. In addition, considerable knowledge of parliamentary procedure, the Local Government Act, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Records Management practices is required. Applicants must also posses excellent oral and written communication skills, problem solving and analytical abilities, strong organizational skills, ability to interpret legislation, bylaws, policies and regulation, and excellent computer skills.

This excluded full-time (35 hours per week) position offers a competitive compensation and benefits package as well as a compressed work schedule option.


  • Degree in Public Administration or related field
  • Five years prior job-related experience
  • Certificate in Local Government Administration preferred
