The Strategic and Corporate Services Department – Information Technology Division is looking for a temporary full-time Systems Specialist for approximately 2 years.

Reporting to the Manager, Application and GIS Services, you will be involved in the support and development of enterprise applications, including complex programming work encompassing all phases of development (business analysis, design, programming, testing, implementation, and support).  As part of a high energy, well accomplished team, you will prepare program specifications, design, write, and test programs or segments of programs; participate in analyzing existing and proposed systems, procedures, and requirements; and assist in the definition of user needs and the implementation of new and/or revised systems.

The IT team has a culture of listening, learning, empowerment and collaboration.  You will be a team player with proven communication skills and proactive approach to supporting the City’s IT applications and users.  You will have a degree or diploma in computer science or a related discipline, with related experience, preferably in web-based programming and specifically some combination of Java, C++/C#, Ruby, or Python; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Experience using project management methodology is required, with Agile strongly preferred, along with an understanding of enterprise application configuration, interface design and maintenance, and systems analysis, preferably in a municipality. 

For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.

Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete standardized tests or exercises to demonstrate their applicable skills and knowledge.

$35.74 to $42.20 per hour
(Pay Grade 24 – January 2018 rates)

Hours of Work:
Any 7 consecutive hours between 7:00am and 11:00pm, Monday to Friday, and may also be scheduled for a regular shift on Saturday between 8:30am and 5pm, exclusive of meal breaks. The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
