The Engineering, Parks & Environment department requires a Regular Full-Time Transportation Technologist.
As part of the Traffic Engineering team, you will be responsible for overall design, operation and administration of the traffic signal and street lighting systems. Specific responsibilities include mid to long-range system planning, asset management record keeping and analysis, technical support for traffic signal system operation and maintenance, programming and verification of traffic signal system operational logic, management of design and construction projects, coordination and administration of contractors/consultants, as well as preparation and review of preliminary and detailed designs for traffic signals and street lighting installations. You will also develop and recommend transportation improvement strategies, and review traffic management plans. In addition, you will liaise with a variety of internal and external contacts, organize and attend public meetings, provide information and assistance to the public, prepare reports and correspondence, participate in budget planning and preparation, and supervise technical and clerical tasks performed by others.
The successful applicant will possess a diploma or degree in engineering with a traffic operation emphasis, and sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as computer literacy are necessary attributes. Experience with industry standard HCM and Synchro software is an asset and a valid class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.
$41.29 to 48.78 per hour
(Pay Grade 27 – January 2019 rates)
Hours of Work:
Currently, work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday which includes a compressed work schedule with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle. However, employees in this position may be scheduled any seven (7) consecutive hours, exclusive of an unpaid one (1) hour meal break, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, to meet operational requirements.
