The Opportunity

The Community
Situated approximately 45 minutes northeast of the City of Grande Prairie, Birch Hills County is located in the Central Peace Region, bordered by the Peace River to the north and the Smoky River to the east. Birch Hills County is a short distance from a number of towns including  Rycroft and Spirit River, Peace River, Falher.

The County which has five hamlets, Eaglesham, Peoria, Tangent, Wanham and Watino.  Is geographically positioned east of Highway 2 and Highway 49 runs through it.

This charming County with a permanent population of  over 1,550. It is an ideal location to live, work, and raise a family. The County boasts a charming mix of agriculture, residential, industrial, commercial and recreational opportunities. This rural community offers a distinctively vibrant atmosphere with an assortment of country residential and farming properties. You will lead a staff of 36 full and part-time staff through a team of four department heads.

The CAO oversees a 2019 budget of $10.8 million.

County Government
Birch Hills County is governed by an elected Council consisting of a Reeve, Deputy Reeve  and 5 Councillors

The CAO Position
The successful candidate for the position will be a mature, proven people manager capable of, inspiring and developing existing and future, motivated, high performing staff at all levels. Strong leadership and customer satisfaction skills. The next CAO will lead by example, be a motivator, able to achieve high levels of service delivery excellence throughout the organization. The position requires someone with financial expertise, discipline to balance fiscal restraint with efficiency and effectiveness of organization.

Education and Experience
This position requires a post-secondary degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, political science, economics, finance, or a related field; and five (5) years of administrative experience in a municipality as CAO, Administrator, Manager, deputy CAO, or in a related senior administrative capacity involving planning, management, and implementation.
