The Planning and Development Department is looking for a regular full-time Planner 3 to join their team.
Reporting to the Manager, Planning, this is a senior planning position overseeing a variety of areas as it relates development planning, land use policy, municipal housing policy and the delivery of new non-market housing in coordination with senior government and non-profit partners. In this position, you will monitor and report on community housing needs and trends and lead the development of new housing policies to align with identified needs. You will administer housing agreements and ensure that the delivery of new non-market housing units are aligned with housing needs. Additionally, you will provide recommendations, in an effort to achieve the goals of Council’s Official Community Plan, on land use policies, the strategic use of City assets for housing and apply for/administer grants and funding opportunities. As well as the housing portfolio, this postion will also undertake review of development applications and assist with policy based projects, where necessary. This is a role that has supervisory aspects as it relates to managing project teams and overseeing the work of consultants.
You will have a University degree in an appropriate discipline, together with a post-graduate degree in Community/Regional Planning along with considerable related knowledge of economics, industry practice, municipal governance, policy creation and development. Sound related experience in land use planning, urban design, housing policy and heritage planning is required. A strong project management skill set, effective communication skills and the ability to exercise judgement in complex problem solving is required to be successful in this role. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of B.C. or the Canadian Institute of Planners and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of BC is also required. Attendance at evening Council, committee and public meetings is required for this role.
$53.01 to $62.81 per hour
(Pay Grade 33 – January 2019 rates)

The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
