The Planning and Development Department is looking for a temporary full time Planner 1 for approximately four (4) months.
Reporting to the Manager, Planning, you will utilize your strong public engagement skills as well as your urban design, negotiation and technical planning skills to help achieve quality and innovative development and building for the City of North Vancouver. You will liaise with various stakeholders, through various tools, concerned with land development and design guidelines, planning studies and general planning trends as well as answer inquiries and provide information to other departments and the public regarding planning zoning, land use or related matters. You will also undertake various projects and participate in workshops relating to land use and social planning policy, zoning and design. Work also includes assisting staff engaged in processing rezoning and redevelopment applications, preparation of planning studies and policy development and in maintaining databases; and providing direction to Consultants.
You will have a University degree in Community/Regional Planning and professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will have strong public engagement experience as well as excellent communication skills, with the ability to successfully build and maintain relationships across a variety of stakeholders. Sound knowledge and experience in the analytical and research techniques and methodology in municipal planning is required, along with membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of British Columbia. Attendance at evening Council, committee and public meetings is required, as is a valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of BC.
Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete standardized tests or exercises to demonstrate their applicable skills and knowledge.
$43.04 to $50.85 per hour (January 2019 rates)
Pay Grade 28
Hours of Work:
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
