The City of Burnaby is seeking Display Technicians on an auxiliary basis at the Burnaby Village Museum for beginning level technical and trades work in assisting a superior in constructing, decorating, repairing and maintaining displays, decorations, props, exhibits, buildings and related items. Employees in positions of this class perform basic carpentry and repair jobs, painting tasks, installing and de-installing event decorations and props of limited complexity and assist a senior technician in performing the more difficult tasks such as exhibit installations. The work is performed under close supervision, although increased independence of action and judgement is allowed as experience is gained and technical competence increases. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in one or more relevant trades, and preferably some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in carpentry, graphic installation and painting; and of the hazards and proper safety precautions of the work. Some knowledge of related trades such as set decoration, costuming, painting and of the practice of commercial display. Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions; to assist a superior in the performance of a variety of trades tasks. Skills in the use of a variety of materials, tools and equipment used in the work. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
