The Assistant Director, IT Infrastructure is responsible for the planning, coordinating and management of the overall design, configuration, development and implementation of technical infrastructure in support of all City business requirements. This exciting position provides leadership to a team of IT professionals while directing the provisioning and management of all technical application support systems, security access controls, infrastructure, telephony, telecommunications, databases and technical and desktop support. Responsibilities also range from development and compliance of security policies and procedures to developing both capital and operating budgets for the division. The ideal candidate will be well versed in long-term planning, design and integration of the technical infrastructure and associated services while ensuring that the City’s IT infrastructure architecture is designed in accordance with strategic imperatives and current technical standards. Performs related work as required.
Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field plus certification in Infrastructure Technology with a minimum seven years’ experience operating an IT infrastructure department of similar size and complexity at the senior management level, preferably in municipal government. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to deliver IT infrastructure projects on time, on budget and to agreed scope while leading and mentoring staff with in-depth knowledge of industry technology trends and standards and the ability to develop policies and procedures based on industry standards balanced with City context. Experience with procurement in negotiating and managing complex IT Infrastructure contracts is vital, along with managing technical infrastructure risk, including cyber security, in a similar business context. As part of IT’s Senior Leadership team, this role is an active participant in solutions-based decision making and analytical problem solving while committing to the City’s Corporate Strategic Plan. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working business relationships both internally and with outside agencies is needed.
