Position: A casual Planner III opportunity is available in the Land Use Services Department. Reporting to the Manager, Development Services or Community Planning the Planner III is responsible for current planning, long range planning and major project activities. Work involves the preparation, review and implementation of official community plans and regional district bylaws.
Qualifications: University graduation in a related field plus a graduate degree in Community and Regional Planning or related field. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and Planning Institute of BC. A minimum of eight (8) years related experience in the field of planning in local government. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License as well as an acceptable police information check and drivers’ abstract is also required. Knowledge of: planning legislation, techniques, and regulatory responsibilities; all aspects of land use, planning legislation, techniques, applicable bylaws and regulatory powers; the theory and application of planning and planning practices and ethics; ESRI GIS Programs; and, the theory and application of physical and community development planning. Ability to: prepare and implement long and short range plans; understand and apply bylaws, regulations, agreements and procedures applicable to departmental responsibilities; problem solve and resolve issues and seek alternative solutions to potential and real problem situations; organize work schedules and prioritize work using strong organizational skills; remain up to date in terms of personal knowledge respecting planning techniques; establish and maintain courteous, tactful, diplomatic working relationships with other employees, general public, and Regional Board Members; communicate effectively both verbally and in written form; proficiently use grammar, spelling and punctuation; and, effectively operate a PC in a Microsoft Suite environment (e.g. Access, Word, Excel).
Hours of Work: This position may work up to seven hours per day. CVRD office hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The incumbent may be operationally required to attend meetings outside of typical office hours and must be flexible and available to work evenings and weekends. As this is a casual opportunity there are no guaranteed hours of work.
Salary: This casual opportunity is unionized (CUPE Local 358) and compensated at a wage rate in three steps ranging from $45.06 to $47.79 per hour (2020 rates).
