This is specialized recreation and cultural work involving the development, coordination and support of a variety of public special events and festivals for the City of Burnaby. The work includes planning, developing, implementing and coordinating special projects, events and festivals. In addition, the incumbent monitors event budgets; directs the work of part-time staff and auxiliary staff, prepares evaluations and maintains a variety of reports, records and correspondence. S/he coordinates the implementation of events and acts as event day coordinator to ensure smooth operations. Recruits, supervises and oversees the work of part-time staff and auxiliary staff, provides orientation and training and engages external contractors as required. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of a post-secondary diploma in recreation and/or culture administration, arts or related field, plus sound related experience preferably including some supervisory experience and experience working with community events or festivals; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of special events practice including technical knowledge of equipment and suppliers is necessary. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, contractors and community planning and operation of special events is essential. Ability to use related software programs effectively is required. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.
