Don’t be mislead by the term “Clerk”, this position carries a lot of responsibility—you help ensure our employees are paid after all! In this role, you have the opportunity to work with individuals at all levels of the organization, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in the preparation, calculation and completion of payroll. With a team structure that is divided based on portfolio groups, you have the ability to take ownership of your work and establish effective working relationships with those you are supporting.

As a Payroll Clerk, your duties include the preparation, calculation and completion of a moderately complex bi-weekly payroll for all employees in your portfolio from hire to retire. Duties include but are not limited to checking and verifying time submitted for validity and adherence to the Collective Agreement, processing WorkSafeBC payments, issuing Records of Employment, preparing remittances, manual cheques, payroll reconciliations, answering payroll related inquiries and maintaining liaison with various internal and external contacts regarding a wide variety of payroll matters.  Other related duties may be required.

While much of your work will be done independently, the payroll department is very team oriented. The department workspace is conducive to collaborative discussion, leaving opportunity for you to share expertise and experience with your peers and learn from them as well!

Ideally, you will have a minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, supplemented by Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification.  Must be proficient in MS Excel, Word and Outlook.  Experience with PeopleSoft and Maximo would be preferred.  Experience in a municipal or regional government environment would be considered an asset.
