The City of Powell River is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to fill the position of Social Planner (full-time leave approximately 1 year).
Reporting to the Manager of Planning Services, the Social Planner position provides project management leadership in collaboration with other City of Powell River, qathet Regional District and Tla’amin Nation departments on complex initiatives. While not an exhaustive list, this will include initiatives related to affordable housing, poverty alleviation, homelessness, harm reduction, social cohesion and community connectedness.
A key responsibility of the position includes liaising with and providing support to the Social Action and Policy Advisory Committee (SAPAC). Specific tasks of this responsibility will be to assist SAPAC and its sub-committee groups to develop policies; find and implement means of achieving their goals; help them interact with other Regional departments and Provincial and Federal agencies; propose specific initiatives to be undertaken to further the regional and community social objectives. Additionally, the Social Planner will provide advice and make recommendations to SAPAC regarding public policy as it relates to social issues.
A university degree in urban planning, community development, social work, or related discipline, preferably at a Master’s level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
This is a C.U.P.E. Local 798 bargaining unit position with a comprehensive benefit package, a 35 hour work week, and a current 2020 rate of $42.89 per hour.
