We are looking to recruit an auxiliary Traffic Assistant in our Engineering Department. The Traffic Assistant is a field and office technical and clerical position to perform work related to the investigation of traffic bylaw and safety related complaints, analysis of traffic movements, speed, vehicle classification, volume and other data collection. The Traffic Assistant also reviews and approves a variety of applications and provides information to the public on procedures in response to requests for information and services. The successful incumbent in this position will need to be able to work independently and exercise judgment when carrying out the required work.
Qualifications needed for this role include the completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in traffic technology or an equivalent combination of training and experience. An incumbent must possess strong working knowledge of Burnaby street layouts including the rules and regulations regarding movement of traffic. The ideal candidate will also have strong work-related experience dealing courteously and effectively with other team members and the public. Strong computer skills and the ability to read plans as well as input data within related databases is required for this role. We are looking for individuals with the experience and skill in the operation of traffic count equipment and conducting field investigation of roadway assets. Experience in engineering projects is considered an asset for this role; as well as experience with Hansen (Infor) work orders and service requests along with SAP inventory control. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required.
The ideal candidate will be available for shifts weekdays between the hours of 6:00 AM and 4:30 PM.
