Engineering Operations - Labourers


The City of Delta’s Engineering Operations department services Delta’s three communities: Ladner, North Delta, and Tsawwassen. We are seeking reliable, self-motivated and flexible team players with experience in Municipal Infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be an individual that possesses significant knowledge and skills in the methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in water, sewer and drainage related construction and maintenance work. Current opportunities offer full-time hours for assignments from early spring through to late fall or early winter, with the  possibility of extension or re-call in the following year.

Duties and responsibilities of labourers & equipment operators working in our Roads Maintenance, Construction and Utilities divisions include, but are not restricted to:

  • Sanitary & Storm Sewer Maintenance & Construction
  • Water System Maintenance & Construction
  • Trench Excavation & Rehabilitation
  • Pipe Installation
  • Form Setting & Concrete Finishing
  • Asphalt Paving & Patching
  • General Labouring & Cleanup


Applicants are encouraged to highlight relevant experience in municipal infrastructure, construction, plumbing, and/or piping work, underground utilities, and concrete & asphalt placement. Successful candidates will be selected based on the experience and skills related to the job. Preference may be given to those who have completed training or courses in relation to public works. You must have the ability to work independently, effectively and efficiently without direct supervision. Good physical condition with the ability to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions is required. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with a safe driving record is required as well as familiarity with driving pickup trucks or larger vehicles. During the assessment process, successful candidates will be required to submit an acceptable current dated Driver’s Abstract from ICBC.
