Scope
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and energetic individual to spend the summer helping the Museum of Surrey with summer day camps and community outreach.

Employment Status
Union - CUPE Local 402

Responsibilities
The Community Services Assistant 1 – Junior Leader will:
  • Provide cultural and historical program opportunities for the local community.
  • Provide Museum support at community outreach events.
  • Organize, prepare and deliver Museum day camps for children 4-10 years of age.
  • Assist to distribute promotional material for the Museum’s fall school programs.
  • Assist with researching crafts, games and activities.


Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • A current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C/AED certificate.
  • Some experience working with children and the public.
  • Experience in a cultural facility setting.
  • Courses in Education, Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, or Archaeology are an asset.
  • Some experience with sewing and textiles is an asset.
  • This position is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs program. This position is contingent on Federal Government Grant funding. Successful candidates must meet the criteria set forth by the grant program, including:
    • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
    • Must be current (January-April 2020) full-time student in a recognized post-secondary program.
    • Planning to return to full-time studies in the Fall of 2020.

Conditions of Employment
This position requires completion of a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
