Fire Prevention Officer

West Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services has an opportunity for a permanent full-time Fire Prevention Officer, available only to current Suppression members.
Reporting to the Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention, this position is responsible for the application and enforcement of Municipal, Provincial and Federal fire prevention bylaws, regulations and codes and to ensure the safety of the public and property.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting periodic and scheduled inspections of commercial, institutional, public and residential buildings and properties to ensure compliance with fire prevention regulations.
- Reviewing plans for buildings and structures; testing fire detection and protection equipment in buildings; investigating fires to determine origin and cause.
- Preparing and delivering information seminars and lectures on fire protection, prevention and safety topics.
- Maintaining required records, reports, statistics, correspondence and other material related to this position.
- Liaising with other fire department and municipal staff, outside agencies and the public.
- Other related duties as required.
The successful candidate will have completed a Grade 12 education, completed courses related to the work or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
The successful candidate will be required to take Fire Prevention Officer certified courses as per the Fire Safety Act and Collective Agreement.

Union (IAFF) – Permanent Full-Time
Hours of Work:
35 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)
Rate of Pay:
$55.76 (2019 Rate)
