Supervisor - Utilities (Construction)

The West Vancouver Engineering team has an immediate opening for a permanent full-time Supervisor in the Utilities (Construction) Department.

Reporting to the Utilities Construction Superintendent, this position is responsible for:

  • planning, scheduling, supervising and assisting in the work of employees engaged in construction or maintenance projects pertaining to water, storm and sanitary infrastructure;
  • ensuring safety rules, regulations and processes are followed;
  • conducting employee evaluations as required;
  • organizing and scheduling routine work of the department and participating in project planning and management;
  • assisting and coaching field staff in the resolution of work problems;
  • providing technical expertise and inspecting work to ensure conformity to specifications, schedules, budgets and safety regulations;
  • receiving and investigating complaints; determining responsibilities, advising complainants, and initiating effective remedial actions;
  • reviewing the requirements for equipment, human resources, materials and tools, and allocating them appropriately to projects;
  • assuring compliance with applicable municipal, provincial, and federal regulations while conforming to occupational safety regulations;
  • reviewing, recommending, and implementing work procedures, assignments, schedules policies, and standards for better utilization of equipment and employees and;
  • communicating effectively, both orally and in written form, through the use of computers and necessary software with internal and external customers.


The preferred candidate will have completed high school graduation or equivalent, supplemented by courses in Public Works operations or be a graduate in the appropriate engineering field of the applied sciences and technologies along with five (5) years of related experience, budget / finance training and experience and considerable knowledge of health and safety regulations. An EOCP Certification would be considered an asset.

The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable Police Information Check and a copy of their credentials.

Rate of Pay:
$38.00 per hour (2019 rate)
