Director - Lonsdale Energy Corporation

(Regular Full-Time)

We are looking for a visionary leader with an entrepreneurial spirit to lead the award winning energy utility Lonsdale Energy Corporation (LEC), that is wholly owned by the City of North Vancouver, and whose goal is to deliver domestic hot water and heat throughout the City in a manner that is both highly sustainable and competitively priced.  Reducing community GHG emissions from buildings and providing excellent customer service are primary objectives of the corporation. LEC currently operates with a combination of natural gas, solar, geothermal and commercial heat recovery heat sources and has recently partnered with Metro Vancouver for another green heat source, the North Vancouver sewage treatment plant, which is currently under construction.

As the Director, you will oversee all aspects of LEC’s operation. Reporting to an LEC Board, you will be responsible for the Vision, Business Plan, Operating Budget and Capital Budget of the utility.  Business development and innovation will be important considerations to ensure that LEC achieves its long term vision while sustaining its economic health. You will also contribute to the City’s Climate Action Plan, which is currently being updated to increase GHG reduction targets.

You will oversee a team of six, responsible for the planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance and administration of LEC’s infrastructure and will be a spokesperson for LEC at local, regional, provincial and national levels of government and NGO’s.  The ability to work cooperatively with various municipal departments, the development industry, professionals and outside agencies is essential. Customer service skills and a solutions approach to problem resolution is essential.

You will have a degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience along with a minimum of 10 years’ demonstrated success leading effective teams and developing, implementing and managing infrastructure or industrial projects and programs preferably in the renewable energy sector. Also, experience in stakeholder management, communications, risk assessment and mitigation, policy, law and contract negotiation will help you be successful in this role.

You are highly motivated to contribute towards a zero emissions future, and capable of thinking strategically with a collaborative problem solving skillset to achieve ambitious outcomes. You will bring a combination of technical competence, analytical, organizational, problem solving, conflict resolution, and decision making skills. You have a proven ability to create and manage budgets, cost controls, scheduling and work planning and handle numerous projects simultaneously while demonstrating commitment to safety, quality and excellent service delivery. You will also bring your vision and your ability to initiate best practices, benchmarking and continuous improvement and implement creative and innovative technical, policy or process changes while ensuring buy-in from staff and other stakeholders.

In addition, you are able to prepare and deliver clear and concise reports on complex or technical issues suitable to a variety of audiences including City Council. As an excellent developer of teams you are able to maximize the engagement and contributions of the team to meet changing business needs and guide, motivate and manage the LEC team.

LEC offers an attractive remuneration and benefits package for this exempt position, including a compressed work schedule.
