The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Planner I to join our team of professionals in the Community Development Division, Community and Policy Planning Department.
Reporting to the Manager, Community and Policy Planning, in this unionized position the successful candidate will be responsible for professional planning work, playing a role in implementing the Agricultural Viability Strategy (AVS), within a broader context of sustainable development, rural planning and agri-food systems planning. In addition to AVS implementation, important components of this role include the preparation and interpretation of (farm) bylaws, policies and guidelines, collaborating on planning initiatives, and data collection and analysis. As a member of the Community and Policy Planning Department, you will work with a team of high-functioning professional planners, Council-appointed advisory committees, and other partners to implement the AVS and strengthen farming in the community.
The successful candidate will possess a university degree in an appropriate discipline, plus a post graduate degree in Community or Regional Planning or other related area, supplemented by some professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preference would be given to those with knowledge and experience in the right-to-farm legislation as well as farm bylaw preparation and interpretation.
In addition to the above qualifications, the ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and will be energetic, enthusiastic, well organized and able to communicate effectively with the public and a variety of stakeholders. Extensive computer familiarity is required with proficiency in visual presentations, word processing and spreadsheets. Competency in relevant computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is necessary. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of BC is required. Additional credentials in agrology and public engagement are desirable.

- Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia
- BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver’s license or equivalent driver’s license for where you reside. To obtain a copy of your Driver’s Abstract, please contact ICBC directly or the driving authority where you reside. Copies or pictures of your driver’s license will not be accepted.
The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $43.90 - $51.87 per hour (5 steps, 2020 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm with the expectation that some evening work may be required.
