Deputy Chief Financial Officer

The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine is seeking an individual for the position of Deputy Chief Financial Officer. This permanent full-time position offers a competitive salary and a full range of benefits including pension. 

The Regional District provides a variety of local government services to an area of 100,000km² in northwestern British Columbia.  Services range from rural land use planning to community water systems, to fire protection, library services, solid waste services, facilities and programs.

This position is located in Terrace, BC, an area known for its world class fishing and outdoor adventure opportunities including a ski hill, 18-hole golf course and mountain biking trails in a pristine setting. This area offers quality advanced education opportunities with both the Coast Mountain College and a satellite campus for the University of Northern BC.  This area has a well-developed Arts and Cultural Community, Recreation Facility and Library.

The Deputy Chief Financial Officer will be a senior member of the Finance team and will report to the Chief Financial Officer.  The individual will be a collaborative strategic thinker and strong communicator, able to represent Finance on project teams, and at public meetings.  This individual will perform a wide range of duties ranging from budgeting, statutory financial reporting, financial year-end processes, project accounting, report preparation, to assisting with the development and implementation of financial and budgeting systems and policies.

The preferred candidate will possess the following education and competencies:
 

  • Completion of a Professional Accounting Designation (CPA)
  • A minimum of 5 years related experience in local government and administration, including budgeting and tax requisitions
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience
  • Sound knowledge of methods, practices and procedures, bylaws, policies and regulations pertaining to the operation of a Regional District finance department
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated experience in statutory financial reporting and year-end preparation
  • Ability and desire to work in a collaborative manner with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Valid driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia


A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
