The Vancouver Board of Education invites applications for the position of:

Special Purpose Funds Accountant 
(Technical & Resource Support E)

Location:
VSB Education Centre - 1580 West Broadway
Department: Finance Division - Accounting
Position Type: Permanent
Hours of Work: 7 hours per day
Annual Salary: $71,016 (+Extensive Benefits Package including Municipal Pension Plan)

In this position, you will:
  • Maintain the accounting for all Special Purpose Funds and provide accounting support to Special Purpose Funds staff
  • Coordinate and prepare budget submissions to the Province with operational input from the various program managers
  • Prepare financial reporting and analysis
  • Review and monitor expenditure against budget, investigate variances, determine and initiate corrective action when necessary, and make appropriate recommendations to management
  • Advise program managers in managing their budgets and support program managers in developing financial acumen and meeting financial reporting deadlines
  • Prepare working papers and schedules to support the financial statements and other financial reporting
  • Provide information to, and interact with, external auditors
  • Train Special Purpose Funds staff on VSB accounting procedures and systems
  • Provide technical and resource support to the Finance Division, District senior management, and Special Purpose Funds staff
  • Perform other duties within the job band as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Valid CPA designation required
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant senior accounting experience
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP required and knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) is considered an asset
  • Experience working in supporting the budget process within a publicly funded organization an asset
  • Candidates must possess proven ability to: establish priorities and meet tight and possibly conflicting deadlines, work independently as well as in a team environment, apply good judgement, and problem solve
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong analytical skills and Excel skills
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials (or another tier 1 Enterprise Resource Planning software) preferred
  • Must be able to meet the following assessments: Excel (70%) and the applicable Accounting assessment
