This is patrolling and security work for City parks and recreation buildings and sites. The work involves patrolling sites by foot or motor vehicle to prevent and take appropriate action against incidents such as drinking, vandalism and suspicious loitering; providing factual information relating to regulations and by-laws to park users; performing minor maintenance and repair tasks to facilities, such as replacing locks, boarding up broken windows and doors, checking and resetting fire and intrusion alarms to secure parks premises; locking closing sports fields to users in inclement weather as necessary and submitting related written reports such as damage reports and patrol activity reports. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications include sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of Burnaby park facilities in terms of their location, uses and hours of operation. Sound knowledge of the policies, procedures, park regulations and related bylaws governing the work performed; and of methods and materials, tools and equipment used in minor building repair work and janitorial work. Ability to assist in the supervision and training of janitorial staff; to deal tactfully, diplomatically and effectively with the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff; to understand and follow oral and written instructions and prepare and maintain related non-complex records and reports. Skill in the use of cleaning and maintenance supplies and equipment. Good knowledge of Parks Bylaws and enforcement is desired. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
