With the pending retirement of the incumbent, the Town of Comox has an exciting career opportunity and is inviting applications for the Superintendent of Parks position. The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient operation of the Parks Department exercising a high degree of initiative, judgement, and authority on Parks, Building Maintenance and Marina matters.
Reporting to the Municipal Engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the operating functions of the Parks Department, including managing and directing the work of the Parks Labourers and seasonal workers. The successful candidate will also be responsible for planning, coordinating, and maintenance of all Town owned parks, buildings, and the municipal marina, in accordance with Council policy and displaying sound risk management practices at all times.
The preferred candidate will possess a University degree in Parks Administration, Turf Management, Horticulture, or related discipline; or Graduation from a recognized two-year program in Horticulture, along with a Business Administration certificate or equivalent. The preferred candidate will also possess four to six years progressively responsible experience in parks maintenance or related field, including supervisory experience in a unionized environment, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
