This is manual work of limited complexity and responsibility in performing janitorial and custodial tasks on an assigned shift in and around Bonsor Recreation Complex and specifically the Bonsor 55+ Centre facility. In addition, the Building Service Worker performs minor repair and servicing tasks as well as responds to routine requests from the public. This position will work independently to maintain the building in pristine condition, by coordinating the setup, cleaning and daily maintenance to support the public recreation functions of the complex. Duties include dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning floors and carpets; washing hand basins, sinks, toilets, showers and tile work and replenishing washroom supplies; cleaning windows, doors, glass partitions and painted surfaces; cleaning pools, setting up tables and chairs and other furniture for scheduled events or activities. Ensures building security, answers inquiries and provides routine information and assistance to the public when required.  Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation preferably supplemented by some experience in janitorial work and minor maintenance of buildings and equipment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Good working knowledge of principles, practices, tools and equipment used in minor and routine building maintenance and repair work.  Ability to execute oral and written instructions and to deal courteously and effectively with the public and patrons of the Bonsor 55+ Centre.  Sound knowledge of pool mechanical and water quality is an asset. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
