The Village of Keremeos encompasses two square kilometers in B.C.’s beautiful Similkameen Valley, 30 minutes south of the city of Penticton and the airport, and approximately 4 hours from the greater Vancouver area. Keremeos is on the boundary of Canada’s Sonoran Desert and is the western gateway to interior wine country.
Keremeos’ housing remains very affordable, and the Village contains schools, parks, a medical clinic and hospital, care facilities, a grocery store, drug store and pharmacy, restaurants, pub and liquor store, and several fresh fruit and vegetable stands. Year-round recreation is nearby with walking and biking trails, skiing, hunting, fishing, and tubing on the Similkameen River.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the incumbent will be primarily responsible for performing and overseeing duties specifically relating to the treasury and financial operations of the Village at a professional level. The incumbent will be able to work with little supervision and will be expected to exercise considerable independent judgment.
Most desirable qualifications for this position include:
- A minimum of five years related experience, preferably in a municipal setting
- Demonstrated ability to work reliably with minimum supervision and to meet prescribed deadlines
- General understanding and knowledge of the Community Charter, Local Government Act and other related statutes
- Proficient in the operation of a personal computer and associated programs including: Windows, MS Office Suite, MAIS or other municipal accounting software
