This is supervisory and specialised work of a technical legal nature in coordinating the operations of the court services and cell block units at the RCMP Detachment. The incumbent reviews and supervises the work of a moderate sized group of subordinates performing court liaison and custodial cell block work; may participate in reading and assessing reports to Crown Counsel; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts; works under general supervision and exercises considerable independent judgement and action within departmental policies and procedures. Policy and unusual problems are discussed with a superior who evaluates work in terms of effectiveness of operations and services rendered to the Detachment. Performs related work as required.
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by post-secondary courses related to the work plus considerable related experience in a police environment, and preferably supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Thorough knowledge of law enforcement practices of the RCMP, investigational procedures and evidentiary requirements to prove a charge, the Criminal Code of Canada and other applicable Federal and Provincial statutes enforced by the RCMP, the criminal justice systems, court procedures. Training and experience with PRIME and JUSTIN are considered assets. Ability to read and assess reports for clarity, accuracy and completeness, initiate, develop and implement work methods and procedures, make decisions in light of established precedence and resourcefulness in meeting new problems, maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts, explain and interpret departmental rules and regulations, prepare and present statistical and narrative reports. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required. Must obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security clearance.
