The City of White Rock is a unique, ocean-side community of 20,000 citizens known for its sunny weather, expansive beach, historic pier, delightful restaurants, and sense of community. The City is located half an hour south of Vancouver on the shore of Semiahmoo Bay.
Reporting to the Director, Planning and Development Services, the Manager, Planner is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and directing the daily operation of the City’s Planning Division, including overseeing employees engaged in these functions. Over the 2016-2021 period White Rock is anticipating residential growth between 2-3% per year, offering many opportunities to be part of shaping the community as it expands and new businesses are attracted to the area. This position is also responsible for managing the Official Community Plan Review process, the City’s zoning bylaws and managing the City’s development review processes. Working effectively with the public, consultants, developers, business representatives and government officials is a key responsibility of this position.
The successful candidate for this position possesses an open, team-oriented leadership style and welcomes the challenge of seeking continuous improvements in organizational efficiency. You have demonstrated abilities in developing, creating and implementing urban design solutions. It is essential that you that you are able to develop and maintain positive relationships with the public, key community partners, industry stakeholders and internal departments.
You bring a post-graduate degree in urban planning, architecture, urban design, or landscape architecture, supplemented by a minimum of seven years progressively responsible planning and leadership experience, preferably in a combination of municipal and private sector environments. Familiarity with Tempest Prospero is an asset. Membership or eligibility for membership in PIBC and/or the Canadian Institute of Planners is required.
