Occupational Health & Safety Specialist

The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist (OH&S) position will be responsible for the development, leadership of, overall coordination and implementation of safety programs within the District of Lake Country. The OH&S Specialist is responsible for ensuring Municipal, Provincial, and Federal regulatory compliance and in helping to maintain a safe and healthy workplace. The Specialist plays a significant role in eliminating or reducing the high costs associated with injuries, penalties, property damage, and fines. The OH&S Specialist is also responsible for coordinating in-service training programs, conducting inspections, and performing complex investigations, including those involving significant motor vehicle incidents. The OH&S Specialist contributes information and provides guidance to District staff which can have an impact on WorkSafeBC claim decisions. The OH&S Specialist provides technical support for the Division, including identifying and evaluating risks associated with the physical, chemical, and biological hazards in the workplace and recommending changes to eliminate or control these hazards.

The preferred candidates will have a certificate or diploma in OH&S or a related field of study and a minimum of five years of experience as a safety specialist, preferably in a municipal environment.

The normal work week is 40 hours Monday through Friday, with some variable working hours for meetings and events. The annual salary for this exempt position is within a range of $83,224 to $97,850 (2019 rates), depending upon qualifications, and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
