The Whistler Public Library (WPL), a facility of the Corporate and Community Services division seeks a dedicated and experienced Librarian to join its staff in the position of Technology and Support Services Librarian. Reporting to the Library Director, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly starting as soon as reasonably possible with shift flexibility to work weekends and evenings.
This is a supervisory position that supports the growth of an innovative and technology rich library environment harmonious with the community and the WPL’s strategic vision. The Librarian is responsible for the selection, training, and evaluation of Technical Services and Materials Management staff; will provide oversight of the implementation, function and maintenance of library technologies and digital services; will support staff and patrons in the use of digital services and devices; is responsible for developing and delivering training; and will provide strong supportive leadership to staff to maximize efficiency and deliver consistent and innovative service to the community. This position will be a champion of library technology improvements and heart of the library operations.
The successful candidate must have a Master’s of Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited university and additional studies and/or certifications specific to information technology are desirable combined with at least 3 years of directly related experience in roles with increasing responsibility that includes supervision of staff and previous technology based project management experience (Agile/Scrum). Candidates must have awareness of emerging technology in the library environment including maker-space technology and personal devices; working knowledge of integrated library systems and discovery layers; knowledge of digital resources and databases; and experience using a content management system. An understanding of technology commonly used to serve library patrons such as copiers, print management, reservation software, self-check and experience trouble shooting hardware and software issues in a PC based environment is essential.
The successful candidate demonstrates effective supervisory skills to lead work groups and leadership in the delivery of services with the strong ability to manage change and ambiguity; prioritize independently; and excellent verbal and written communication skills coupled with comfort presenting to groups. The successful candidate is dedicated to a creating a patron- centered library experience and is passionate about serving and educating people both internal and external to the organization.
