In this exempt position you will be reporting to the Director of Planning. The Manager of Community Planning is responsible for the leadership of the Community Planning section whose major areas of responsibility include: preparing community plans (both City wide and neighbourhood plans) for Council’s consideration; preparing related bylaws; providing Council with advice on community planning issues; providing community planning input into the development application process; providing advice and leadership to advisory committees of Council and; providing information, assistance and advice on community plans and policies to a wide variety of internal and external contacts. The Manager of Community Planning leads a small group of professional planners in the execution of this work and also retains consultants as required. The Manager may also act for the Director of Planning in his/her absence.
To be considered for this role applicants must have graduated from an accredited university with a Master’s degree in city or regional planning and possess a minimum 7 years of progressively responsible administrative and management experience. Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Canadian Institute of Planners. Candidates should be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, a commitment to customer service excellence, a willingness to collaborate and build relationships and a full understanding of provincial planning legislation and related statutes and acts. This position will require attendance and presentations at Council, Committee, Open Houses and Public Hearings/meetings to provide advice, information and explain policies and procedures relative to projects and may involve projects requiring in-depth research and major policy recommendations.
