Senior Policy Analyst

What is the job?
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Governance and Strategy, the Senior Policy Analyst is responsible for developing and implementing the organization’s response to the Professional Governance Act (PGA), including formulating the response to government policy proposals, implementing the government relations engagement activities necessary to promote the organization’s position, and providing support for strategic priorities and governance functions. 

This is a 1-year contract.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Identifying issues and implications, evaluating options, and developing recommendations on matters pertaining to the implementation of the PGA and its impact on the organization and its registrants
  • Coordinating the policy response/development process by providing project planning, tracking, and reporting
  • Supporting the implementation of new policy and regulatory requirements, including supporting the development of new bylaws, policies and procedures
  • Developing materials including discussion papers, reports, correspondence, presentations, briefing and communications materials, and submissions to Executive and Council
  • Developing and maintaining a list of key government contacts; building and managing internal and external relationships that support the organization’s policy and government relations objectives, including the development and implementation of stakeholder consultation and engagement processes
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a strategic government engagement program, including the coordination of meetings with government and other relevant stakeholders
  • Managing the planning and delivery of the annual caucus receptions with elected MLAs, including event organization, and on-site support for attendance of government officials at key events including the annual conference and professional member induction ceremonies
  • Participating in bi-weekly meetings with the government relations team to track progress on strategic objectives and following up on action items as required
  • Providing research and support for organizational governance processes, including nominations and election; developing articles and web content in support of these functions; assisting in the development of correspondence
  • Other duties as assigned

Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate will have:
  • A university degree in a related field such as public policy, public administration, business, communications, economics, political science, or law
  • 5 – 7 years of experience working in a policy or public administration environment and managing projects
  • Demonstrated experience in policy development and understanding of legislative and regulatory processes
  • Experience in government relations including coordinating engagement activities and the development of associated materials, communication planning and execution
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to take initiative
  • Proven planning and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
